Adventure Cam
Individual
This design centers on creating a product that fits into an existing ecosystem, working with an established visual language while expanding the brand’s offering to craft a new, cohesive experience.
A 360-degree camera mountable on the vehicle to capture off-road trails and landscapes. Integrates with Rivian’s software and app to undistort photos and videos, creating dynamic visual stories of every adventure.
Mounting Method: Eccentrical Cam Mechanism
The Adventure Cam mounts securely to Rivian’s cargo crossbars using an eccentric cam mechanism. Pulling the lever tightens the cam, securing the device; lifting the lever releases it for easy removal.
Integrating into the pre-existing system ensures intuitive compatibility with Rivian’s design.
Process
Designing for Rivian’s BrandI explored Rivian’s identity by asking: What does Rivian represent? What product aligns with its vision? Who is its ideal customer? These insights guided my design, ensuring it fits into Rivian’s existing ecosystem.
Initial Ideation – Sketches Inspired by Form
Exploring Rivian’s design language, distinguishing what fits the brand and what doesn’t. They also help define form constraints, familiarize components of a 360° camera, and consider aerodynamics for roof mounting.
I aimed to expand the camera’s use by making it detachable from its stand, allowing it to connect to a selfie stick.
Taking inspiration from shark fin antennas, I aimed for a recognizable form that wouldn't intimidate other drivers. Widening the base adds stability, while the tapered stand and undercurve ensure a streamlined, secure appearance.
